About
Anarchist Archive is exactly what it says on the tin.
It is a collection of texts that anarchists may find useful for developing their theory or hearing what other anarchists are saying about events around the world. Here you can find books, articles, and hopefully (eventually) transcriptions of podcasts and videos.
Editorial Policy
This is a rough guide for our editorial policy, and it will be refined this archive grows.
Inclusion
If the basic criteria for inclusion is "by, for, or found interesting by anarchists," there are great many texts and writers and articles who could be included. There is no singular definition of what anarchism is, and there are plenty of ideas about who what really is or isn't anarchist. Our decision to include or exclude documents is not a statement about what is or not "true anarchism."
Exclusion
If something is anarchistic, it may be included, but we reserve the right to exclude texts that are nominally or even allegedly anarchist. Some of the criteria for exclusion includes but is not limited to the following:
- Support for States or borders
- Racism
- Sexism
- Queerphobia (including invalidation of xenogenders)
- Transphobia (including transmed or truscum)
- Xenophobia
- Ableism
- Speciesism
- Rape or abuse apologia
- Support for the accumulation of capital (cough AnCaps cough)
Each of these exclusion criteria has many definitions, and we cannot have perfect consistency in the application of these criteria. Further, the severity or focus of these subjects (compared to offhanded mention) also determines whether something should be excluded. A text by an author who, generally or in some of their texts meets, meets the exclusion criteria may still have some of their works included in this archive. It is not "all texts by an author" or "none."
If you ask any of us, we would not say there is a single writer or text they are 100% in alignment with, so if we excluded everything that we found slightly problematic, this archive would be empty. We cannot apply these guidelines with complete consistency.
To help make it more clear what my be excluded, the following are explicitly excluded:
- All texts by Mao Zedong (obviously)
- All texts by ITS (Individualistas Tendiendo a lo Salvaje)
- All texts by Ted Kaczynski under any of his pen names
